Eilkoro for Development and Reconstruction works in emergency response and recovery throughout Sudan, especially in emergency hotspots. The organization is currently working to respond to the crisis in North Darfur, where the ongoing fighting has affected millions of people, particularly in the areas of Elfashir, Abu Zerega, and Zamzam. The RSF has attacked, set fire to, and looted about 67 villages in Abu Zerega, killing, injuring, and uprooting about 217,000 people, including those who fled to the bush for safety without even the most basic access to food, water, or shelter. Eilkoro for Development and Resconstruction started a community mobilization right away to raise money and respond to the most pressing emergency needs.

As a result, the organization has been supplying food through hot meal provision in the settlements with the help of the funds and the support of the communities and diasporas. This has allowed 45,000 families to receive three days’ worth of meals in five different locations throughout the settlements. To provide drinking water to those who remain, isolated, and blacked out in an area without water sources, Eilkoro also organized an emergency water trucking operation using rental trucks. In this regard, 700,000 liters of water were supplied, saving the lives of 140,000 people, including 1350 people with the situation is getting worse as Eilkoro writes this brief report. The militia attack is spreading into the Zamzam camp, which was initially home to about 750,0000 internally displaced people. This adds to the already heavy burden on the few resources available to them and increases their needs because these people lack basic access to water and other life-saving supplies. The fighting is intense, leading to many deaths, particularly among children, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses. Additionally, the small clinic and health center are closing, further exacerbating the situation.
Access to water sources became challenging due to the militia’s active presence in the area, and the only function markets were completely looted and burned. The IDPs’ homes were also destroyed, and the food items they used to store were either burned or looted. Recent events in the Zamzam areas have increased the likelihood that the supply chain will dry up, putting the internally displaced people at risk of starvation. In these conditions, fuel to run the water pump will no longer be available, and firewood collection activities are also at risk because the women who normally gather the wood are unable to leave the camp due to security concerns.
Method of response
Eilkoro’s resources has dried up and will not be able to continue its response to the above mentioned emergency hence provision of the life-saving intervention at a critical point unless new funding secured.
